The Dionysian Catholic Church is a Western Christian church in the Independent Sacramental Movement—catholic in sacramental life, apostolic in continuity, contemplative in theology, and governed synodally.

Why We Exist

The Dionysian Catholic Church exists for those who cannot remain in their current churches with integrity: women called to ordained ministry, LGBTQ+ persons excluded from full participation, and those whose current church’s theology or practice has become a barrier to their spiritual life.

We also exist to embody the theological vision at the heart of this path—Dionysian apophaticism, Neoplatonic participation, and Western Hermetic Christianity—in full sacramental and liturgical form.

The Independent Sacramental Movement

We’re part of the Independent Sacramental Movement—a diverse family of Christian churches that maintain apostolic succession and sacramental theology while exercising independence from Rome, Constantinople, or Canterbury.

We’re catholic in the universal sense: we hold the fullness of Christian sacramental life and apostolic continuity without external jurisdiction. We’re not Roman Catholic, and we’re not Protestant. We’re Western Christian churches continuing the sacramental tradition.

Our Identity

We confess the Nicene and Chalcedonian faith as the grammar of Christian confession. We affirm the Incarnation, Trinity, and Resurrection. We celebrate the seven sacraments. We maintain apostolic succession through the historic episcopate.

What makes us distinctive is our theological vision and contemplative practice:

• Eucharist celebrated with theurgic intention—enacting participation in divine life, not just symbolizing grace
• Worship ordered toward transformation through purification, illumination, and union
• Formation in Dionysian-Neoplatonic-Hermetic theology as the path to theosis
• Full inclusion: women ordained to all orders, LGBTQ+ persons affirmed fully, marriage without barriers
• Synodal governance with episcopal oversight—authority for service, not domination

Most people engaging Dionysian Catholic Christianity will remain in their current churches and learn this theological vision through formation and spiritual direction.

The Church exists for those who need a sacramental home where this vision is embodied in worship, where women can be ordained, where LGBTQ+ persons are fully included, and where contemplative transformation is central to ecclesial life.

Women Called to Ordained Ministry

We ordain women and men equally to all orders: deacon, presbyter, and bishop.

If you’re a woman called to priesthood and your current church won’t ordain you, we offer full access to Holy Orders within the same theological and contemplative tradition.

LGBTQ+ Persons Excluded from Full Participation

We affirm transgender and nonbinary persons fully. We recognize marriage as a covenant between two consenting partners, without barriers based on gender or orientation.

If your current church excludes you from ordination, marriage, or full sacramental participation because of your gender identity or sexual orientation, we offer full inclusion.

Those Who Genuinely Cannot Stay

If your current church’s theology, practice, or community has become a barrier to your integrity and spiritual life—if staying would mean compromising your conscience or denying your call—we offer a church home rooted in contemplative Christianity.
